I feel like I say this every week but what a week it's been!
It started off with a call from school last Friday that she coughed her way through nap time and was exhausted. A bit of puke, an extremely high fever and 3 days home sick.
What did I learn through it all? Stay at home moms are amazing! Granted we were a bit cooped up due to illness, I don't know how stay at home moms do it. Entertaining, planning, physical exhaustion. When I get home from a short day at the office I've been sitting for 5-6 hours so I've got the energy for Hannah from 3pm-7:30pm but this 24 hour kid thing takes everything out of you! Maybe the bun in the oven is partly to blame but kudos to all you 24/7 moms.
Then, I had my 2nd doctor's appointment and finally caved for the Diclectin. I'm going into week 15 now and my nausea symptoms aren't getting much better. So I took the first pill last night before my early bedtime of 9pm. I awoke at midnight (the third part of this post) feeling absolutely nauseous. I know the pills cause drowsiness but I wasn't expecting to feel nausea off the bat. My symptoms this morning weren't completely gone and now I'm contemplating popping another pill.
Finally, hives. The past two nights have been rough as Hannah is finally better from her cold but broke out in a sudden rash. Two nights ago my husband spent two hours on her floor, after coating her with ample layers of cream. Last night, her entire face was covered in hives.
I raked my brain trying to think of what was new (food, drink, routine) and finally realized that I had switched from Natural Bounce sheets to Outdoor Fresh Bounce sheets. And her pillow case had just been cleaned in them the day before. So to avoid any more late night calamity, she came into our bed (which my back is still blaming me for) and I'm in the process of re-washing all of her bedding and clothing.
So now we have the weekend to look forward to and 8 whole days off of school. At least we've got sickness and allergic reactions out of the way...now to solve the nausea dilemma. Hoping it will do that on its own :)

Sick Breath
The temperature outside this weekend hovered around 0 degrees celsius. And while most families were out an about enjoying the mild weather at multiple kid-friendly carnivals throughout Montreal, we were stuck at home.
But our indoor temperature was more than mild. Hannah had a 103 degree fever all weekend long. No fun. Lots of tempra, fluids and soup but she just couldn't shake it.
She morphed into a new child. A calm, TV-watching little girl that only wanted hugs and to be carried around. Snuggles on the couch...who is this child?
And while I savoured our moments of love (her sick breath aside) all I wanted was for her to feel better.
Not wanting her to cry unnecessarily, she made it into our bed every night. And while my back is aching from her sideways sleeping position, we are most concerned about a new habit we may be developing.
We worked so hard to break the co-sleeping habit at 8 months but it came back so naturally.
I hope with all of my might that once she is feeling better (which may be today seeing as it was a Tempra-free day) she will break the habit on her own and snuggle up under her covers all night long.
Maybe I caved too easily. Maybe she will bounce back to her old routine.
Whatever the outcome, I think I need to get myself a new sick strategy...any ideas?

You Give me Fever
Why is fever for an adult anything over 98.6 but for a child its over 100.4?
Nothing like making things confusing, especially when you have a little one who is burning up.
Mid-day Saturday, Hannah started getting a little toasty so out came the thermometer. With a challenging feat ahead of us we managed to get take her temperature which was about 99.6.
A few drops of tempra and a low key afternoon were the remedy (along with many smoothies) and then she was off to bed early. With thoughts of febrile seizures looming in my head, we took the monitor off of its beloved position on one of our nightstands and put it next to the couch while we watched the Hurt Locker.
She woke up at 6am, with another mild fever. No other symptoms though. No tummy problems. No runny nose. But most of all, no intention of missing her BFF's birthday party. So a shot more of tempra pre-party dress and she was off.
Not sure why it took me 24 hours (and a faster thermometer) to realize that she had a tooth coming in (thanks mom). Hannah has a mouth full of teeth but these last few ones seem to be taking a toll on her.
Early mornings, short naps, reduced appetite...poor baby!
I didn't get the warmest reception at daycare this morning after recounting her temperature chart, but she had a great day with no more medicine. Hopefully this little fang will break through soon, and my little girl will be back to her normal rambunctious self!
